The Halabja Massacre

On 16 March 1988, Iraqi planes bombed the Kurdish city of Halabja with chemical weapons, targeting its civilian population. In a few hours, 5,000 people were killed and more than 7,000 wounded, most of them women and children. The massacre is one of the largest uses of chemical weapons against civilians in the 20th century.
