A Kurdish Iranian director, born in Baneh in 1969. His debut *A Time for Drunken Horses* (2000) was the first Kurdish film to win the Caméra d'Or at Cannes. *Turtles Can Fly* and *Half Moon* tell the lives of Iraqi and Iranian Kurds with painful poetry.
