Biography
A Kurdish Iranian political and religious leader, born in Mahabad in 1893. On 22 January 1946 he proclaimed the Kurdish Republic of Mahabad, the first independent Kurdish state of the modern era. After its fall he refused to flee and was hanged by the Shah on the same platform where the flag had been raised, on 31 March 1947.
